That said, there is value in looking at this half of the Tyranny of Dragons adventure path in whole. A chapter-by-chapter guide does little good when we skipped entire chapters and rewrote others. I chose not to cover Rise of Tiamat the same way because, during my playthrough, the story of the PCs ended up moving the campaign far outside of the bounds of the adventure. Running Rise of Tiamatįrom September 2014 to March 2015 I published a set of articles with tips for running Hoard of the Dragon Queen, the first published Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition adventure. About the only target audience I could see for it would be recent folks coming to 5E who missed the 2019 release, want a printed version, but don't want to pay the current ridiculous price. It was already going to be a heavy-lift to convince GM's to buy this: it's a reprint of a set of modules which are pretty widely criticized. Again it takes a lot of trial-and-error searching just to figure out what is new. At some point in the past I bought the Monsters from the module, and on the purchase page it shows me owning all of them but also there seems to be some new additions (Red Half Dragon Gladiator, Green Half Dragon Assassin) that forwards me back to the purchase page when I try to look them up. Looking at the posted Table of Contents, I'm not seeing any changes to the Adventure progression/structure, but also I'm not sure if that's still just showing the previously existing ToC. So I'm certainly not going to drop $30 to see what actually changed (and for, y'know, *gestures vaguely at the dumpster fire*). Apparently this was re-written and re-organized to address some of that, something I certainly was unaware of until this week. Written by Wolfgang Baur and Steve Winter, and originally developed together with Kobold Press, it has a reputation for having issues deriving from being a first release for 5E. The original combined release came out in 2019, with one of the shiny special edition covers (which checking Amazon currently goes for $300). You'd be forgiven for not knowing that, as there's been no mention of it on DnDBeyond or, really, anyplace DnD news adjacent since November. So apparently Tyranny of Dragons (which combined the early 5E adventures of Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat) has been re-released.
